Who would ask a dumb question like that?

Can I load the kayaks however I like?

How do I use the tie down straps?

What is the correct way of fitting the deluxe seats into the kayaks?

How do I put on a life jacket so I don’t drown?

How do I use the paddle?

How do we keep going straight in a double kayak?

Now this is not a completely comprehensive list of questions, I wish our clients would have asked before taking the kayaks out, but it’s a start.

This is our fifth Summer of hiring kayaks and I never cease to be amazed at the pride of people who do not know the answers to the above questions and will not allow themselves to ask for help in answering them.

The cost of this pride is that the kayaker is putting the safety of themselves and/or others at risk. It also often results in excessive wear and tear and equipment loss and damage as a result.

Whilst we really encourage our clients to “make their own adventure”, we care for their welfare and are grieved when pride gets in the way of safety.

So please remember that even the elite athletes of the world are constantly coached and trained, so there is no shame in checking your knowledge or asking if you do not know something.

Nicky and I really want all of our clients to “stay upright” and have a great time.
